Stay On Top of ICAO 2012 Changes with FltPlan.com
The deadline for using the new ICAO format flight plans is fast approaching. Starting on October 15th, FltPlan.com users can start entering the required data for flight plans for ERAM 2012. FltPlan.com will use the new format for filing flight plans starting on November 1st, enabling you to meet the FAA deadline of November 15th.
As you may already know, FltPlan.com was the first in bringing the ICAO format changes to the General Aviation population in June 2008. As the largest flight planning company in North America, we are very aware of the new changes that will be taking place in November 2012 and will implement them with a simple process for compliance with ICAO 2012. In the coming weeks, FltBrief and the FltPlan.com website will keep you posted with any updates.
Let FltPlan.com Help You Stay on the Right Side of Mexican Overflight Regulations
The word is out that Mexico is now enforcing its overflight fees retroactively. FltPlan.com can help. We can determine if you owe fees and help you manage your payments.
You can read the details about Mexican overflight regulations in our previous article: http://flttrack.fltplan.com/fltbrief/May2012/fltbriefvol3.htm#1
In short, our Mexican Overflight Fee Payment Service can help you:
Find out if you owe fees to the Mexican government and how much they are
Distribute your payment to the Mexican authorities for flights already made and send you a receipt as proof of payment. (Keep in mind that the Mexican government requires that payment be made from a Mexican bank. Credit cards, checks and wire transfers from U.S. banks are not accepted.)
Handle your payments for future trips

FltPlan.com Hits the Road: Check us out at the AOPA and NBAA shows
FltPlan.com will be at the AOPA Aviation Summit 2012 in Palm Springs CA on October 11-13. Visit us at Booth 1329. Look for some great new features and enhancements being announced at the show for both our web programs and mobile based apps for iPad and Android. FltPlan.com will have a large number of staff members at the show, including some of our iPad and Android developers to demonstrate our constantly improving apps.
At the NBAA Convention in Orlando on October 29th, FltPlan.com will be among four panelists discussing iPad use in the cockpit. The meeting starts at 11am and runs to 12:30pm.
Moving Maps & Charts come to FltPlan.com's Android App
FltPlan.com is pleased to announce its latest update to our popular Android App.
Some great new features include:
Offline/Online moving map
This feature displays your flight on sectionals and enroute charts (high & low altitude).
'Track Up' moving maps
The plane icon moves in the same direction as the plane. What's on the left side of the aircraft is on the left side of your moving map. Most iPad Apps do not provide this.
This handy feature lets you record where your flight takes you. From take-off to landing, you can see the actual route that your aircraft flew.
Take notes on your moving map
With FltPlan.com's Android App, you can write notes on your moving map. With this feature you can make notations along your route, which can be viewed later while in flight or on the ground.
Import your flight plan routes created on FltPlan.com
Import all of your flight plan routes from your account (plus those from shared accounts) onto your maps/charts with the push of a button. No need to retype your route.
Simple access to information
All the data you need for your flight is available (offline or online) with a long press to one of your routes.
Android devices come in a variety of sizes from 7-inch tablets to 11-inch tablets. Our Android App also works on your Android smartphone. We're particularly fond of the 7 inch devices, since they are light weight, easy to hold and view, but not as cumbersome as the larger tablets.
Android tablets are less expensive than iPads. You can get a powerful 7 inch tablet for $199 (Nexus from Google) or a $249 Samsung Galaxy II (available at most retail electronic stores).
Whatever your preference for mobile devices, FltPlan.com will continue to provide the tools you need.
And a Note for iPad Users...
Look for more upgrades and new enhancements in the coming weeks and months for the iPad and iPhone.
